Anonymous asked: I think women should have a right to choose whether or not to identify with feminism as a movement. I don't consider myself a feminist because there are parts of the movement I don't like. That doesn't mean I don't know anything about it, or that I don't agree with parts of it. But as a woman, I choose not to identify with it and to let my feelings speak for themselves without having to answer to a movement.
i completely understand. i agree that parts of the movement are problematic, and would like to disassociate myself with those aspects, but also find the term feminist useful as a schematic tool of identification. i’d love to specifically sort through every single issue and where i stand on it, but find that it is not very pragmatic for a daily basis and how our world works. i consider myself to be a feminist, not because i find the word or movement to be unproblematic, but because i consider it to be the large-scale socio-political term and movement that fits closest to my beliefs and identities. i do not like labels, and often consider them to be counter-productive and reinforcing patriarchal structures of hegemony, yet at the same time view them as realistically necessary (at least at this time) in order to join a larger movement as well as to have useful schematic representations of the world.
my post was a rant bashing uneducated people who constantly scapegoat feminism. you seem very educated about it, so there would be no reason for you to consider yourself part of the post.
